So, the American election is today, but why do we care?
You really can't have missed it, its been reported in every single newspaper, on every television news station and on all commercial news sites. Its even been the subject of some pretty hot blogging. (http://www.spectator.co.uk/americano/)
But really, how does this affect us? Well for the past few years the UK has essentially been an extension of the US. We followed them in to war, have been sharing intelligence and even report their news as our own (the elections being a prime example (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/us_elections_2008/7707581.stm)) and which candidate wins may change how far the UK is linked to the US.
McCain wants to continue with Iraq and other things started by George W. Bush.
Obama was an early protester to the war in Iraq and so it will be interesting to see how he leads, if he gains power.
The different candidates may be the difference in how long it takes to get troops out of Iraq... And that affects us quite a lot, don't you think?
